The case is in the mail.
A six-month murder mystery, delivered one envelope at a time.
Real letters. Real evidence. One killer. Can you solve it?
No spam. One envelope at a time.
The pitch
Every month for six months, a thick envelope lands in your mailbox. Inside: a hand-typed letter from a witness who saw too much, a torn page from a society column, a telegram with one word missing, a photograph someone tried very hard to forget.
A code on the back of the envelope unlocks the next chapter on bafflery.com — voicemails left at three in the morning, a recording you'll need to slow down to hear properly, the suspects' own words in their own voices, an original score that suggests the era better than any establishing shot.
No app. No timer. No leaderboard pressuring you to solve faster than your friends. Just six months of evidence, the time to sit with it, and one extremely civilized murder to untangle. Welcome to the Bafflery.

Name the killer.
The final envelope arrives in December. You'll have one week to submit your accusation. Solvers earn a permanent place on the Honors Wall.
The materials
A case in two halves.
Paper, ink, evidence.
Letters, telegrams, society columns, photographs, hand-drawn maps, and the occasional small object — all designed and printed on archival paper, the kind of production you'd expect from a museum gift shop, not a subscription box.
Voices, music, the Parlor.
Voicemails, ambient recordings, and an original score composed for the case. Full suspect dossiers, an interactive map, your own private theory notebook. And the Parlor — a members-only Discord where the Baffled compare notes (carefully).
Why Bafflery
Most mystery subscriptions are graphic-design crime scenes pretending to be cases. Bafflery is something else.
The setting is a country house in 1932, or an ocean liner crossing the Atlantic, or a touring theatre company that closes one night short. The violence is implied. The pleasure is in the puzzle, the people, and the period. If you grew up on Christie, Marple, and Miss Fisher — if you've ever wanted to be in one of those stories instead of watching them — this is the front door.
A note on company
Cases are designed for solo play, but the Baffled tend to gather. Bring a friend. Bring three. A proper group mode arrives with our second case.
Frequently asked
Questions, in good order.
How much is it?
$39 per envelope, billed monthly for six months. Founding members lock in a permanent discount on every case to come.
What if I miss a month?
You can't — it's a subscription, and the chapters are meant to land in order. You can cancel any time, though you'll forfeit access to the unsolved case.
Is it scary? Is it gory?
No, and no. Bafflery sits squarely in the cozy / golden-age tradition. Murders happen offstage. The clothes are excellent.
Do I need to be good at puzzles?
You need to be good at paying attention. That's the whole requirement.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes — a one-shot Bafflery Weekend is in the works for gifting. Join the waitlist and we'll write when it's ready.
When does the first case ship?
August, 2026. The founding cohort closes at 250 members.
The first envelope ships August. There are 250 seats. Yours is one email away.
